ABOUT THE INTERVIEW

Prior to the Global Back Office Improvement & Operational Excellence in Banking Summit, we’ve held an exclusive Interview with Myrna Soufan from Banque BEMO sal

Myrna El Khazen Soufan is the Chief Operating Officer of Banque Bemo SAL Lebanon. Born in 1963, she began her banking and professional career in the fields of Finance and Internal Audit. She holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Université du Québec à Montréal – Canada. She is Certified Internal Auditor – CIA and member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. She holds also a Certificate in Arts Management from ESA Business School and GurrJohns London.

What can the participants expect from your presentation, can you summarize the most exciting part of it, in a few lines?

The global pandemic is having a devastating impact on health, societies, and economies around the world.

While the whole world is deeply engulfed in the global economic crisis, Lebanon’s economy is stormed by combined crises, starting with an economic and financial crisis, followed by COVID-19 and lastly by the largest non-nuclear explosions ever recorded at the Port of Beirut.

My presentation is a Bank’s story of courage in face of disaster.

What would be the most important challenge going through unprecedented experiences?

Lebanese people are known for being among the most inventive and resilient people in the world. However, a Distress reaction is a normal response to abnormal events. The Lebanese citizens have lived through all the horrors in less than two years.

The Lebanese Banking sector, who used to be the banking center of the Middle East, is not just facing the economic crises, but rather steering through unchartered waters to face a sort of collapse.

The challenge is on how to move from a Distress and survival mode to a decision making mode.

It is not just a question of survival. We have to reinvent ourselves to stay in the game and ahead of the competition.

So why do we need to reinvent ourselves?

  • Life force
  • We have no choice.
  • There is always life at the end of the tunnel

Myrna will be holding a Case Study on Day One!

Operational Excellence while experiencing a sort of collapse

  • Challenges faced and resilience building
  • The power of Self-reinvention
  • Gift of positive options
  • Operational Excellence though unprecedented experiences
